HISTORY

Isthmus Bureau of Shipping (IBS) was founded in 1995 when a professional mariner, Rogelio Orillac, assembles a group of qualified marine experts, to create a company with the purpose of contributing to the promotion of the well-established reputation of the Panamanian Registry.

Immediately upon foundation, IBS commences operations when the Directorate of Consular and Maritime Affairs, recognizes the organization to conduct surveys and issue all statutory certificates on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Panama, as per IMO and national regulations.

Also in 1999, the Government of Ecuador Recognizes IBS to conduct audits and issue certificates according to the ISM Code.

Finally, in 2000 the International Ships Registry of Bolivia (RIBB), fully recognizes IBS to engage in survey and certification activities on behalf of the Government of Bolivia.

In 2003, IBS’ Quality Management System underwent extensive revision, to adapt for compliance with the requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 Standard.  Implementation was deemed successful, and IBS became one of the first organizations to upgrade its system to the newest standard.

Nowadays, IBS has a network of representative offices and more than 150 surveyors around the world, which work under direction and coordination from its Head Office, located at the crossroads of the world.  Its endeavor is aimed at continuously performing and improving its work, always keeping a futuristic vision while complying with National and International regulations and upholding its Policy of Quality.
